Accountability Within the Local Assembly – Pastor Joseph Ice

Today on the series of School of the Local Church, led by Pastor Joseph Ice, we delved into the crucial topic of accountability within the local assembly. Drawing inspiration from James 5:16, Pastor Ice emphasized the importance of mutual accountability among believers for fostering spiritual growth and maintaining a healthy church community.

Key Points from the Sermon:

  1. God’s Will is Growth: Pastor Ice referenced Luke 1:80 to highlight that God’s desire is for us to grow spiritually. He emphasized that growth is a natural expectation in our walk with God and should be evident in our lives as believers.
  2. Growth is Not Meant to Be a Prayer Point: Growth should not be something we merely pray for; it requires active effort and participation. Pastor Ice urged the congregation to take proactive steps towards their spiritual development rather than passively waiting for growth to happen.
  3. Be Responsible Enough for Your Actions or Inactions: Accountability begins with taking responsibility for our own actions or lack thereof. Pastor Ice stressed the importance of acknowledging our mistakes and shortcomings as a foundation for true accountability and personal growth.
  4. There’s a Lot of Power in Taking Responsibility: By owning our actions, we unlock the power to change and improve. Taking responsibility empowers us to make positive changes in our lives and contributes to the overall health of the church community.
  5. You Have a Choice on How to React to Offense: Pastor Ice reminded the congregation that we have the power to choose our reactions to offenses. We can either hold onto grudges and walk in offense or choose to forgive and move forward. Choosing forgiveness fosters unity and strengthens our bonds within the church.

We are encouraged to have a sense of responsibility and to be willing to be held accountability to our actions as Christians
